Y Puran Kumar, a 2001-batch IPS officer of the Haryana cadre, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his residence in Sector 11, Chandigarh. According to preliminary information, the IPS officer died by suicide by shooting himself. The Chandigarh Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) has launched an investigation into the incident. Puran Kumar’s wife, IAS officer P Amneet Kumar is currently on an official visit to Japan with Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini.

Y Puran Kumar Has Long History Of Controversies

Y Puran Kumar was serving as Inspector General of Police (IGP), PTC Sunaria (Rohtak). He was previously appointed IG, Rohtak.

Y Puran Kumar has a long history of controversies. As per a jagran.com report he had repeatedly opposed Haryana's current Director General of Police, Shatrughan Kapoor, former Chief Secretary TVSN Prasad, and former DGP Manoj Yadav.

During Lok Sabha Election 2024, Y Puran Kumar had also filed a complaint with the Election Commission against the then Chief Electoral Officer, Anurag Agarwal. He alleged that IAS Anurag Agarwal was taking action against officers based on caste considerations. Only officers from Scheduled Castes were being replaced, while officers from the upper castes were not.

Y Puran Kumar also accused the then Home Secretary, Rajiv Arora, of biasedly submitting an investigation report in favour of former DGP Manoj Yadav in 2022. The matter also reached the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Y Puran Kumar also exposed the occupation of two government houses by nine IPS officers, after which the officers were forced to vacate one of the government houses and a fine was imposed on them.
