Seven members of a cow vigilante group, including two juveniles were arrested for allegedly beating a migrant worker to death in Haryana’s Charkhi Dardi district, police said on Saturday. The incident occurred on August 27, when the victim, identified as Sabir Malik, a resident from West Bengal was suspected of eating beef.

According to the police, the accused, identified as Abhishek, Mohit, Ravinder, Kamaljit and Sahil, lured Malik to a shop under the guise of selling plastic bottles before assaulting him. The attackers then moved Malik to another location where they continued the beating, resulting in his death, a senior official said.

The victim's brother-in-law, Sujauddin, called for severe punishment for the accused, revealing that Malik was taken away under false pretences and later found dead near a canal. Malik, who lived in a shanty in Bandhra village and earned a living by collecting waste, was the primary breadwinner for his family.

Police arrested all five accused and apprehended two juveniles in connection with the case. A case has been registered against them under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). An investigation is underway and further action would be taken accordingly.

Responding to the incident, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini stated that such incidents are regrettable and should not occur. However, CM Nayab Singh Saini criticised the use of the term "mob lynching," stating that a strict law for cow protection has already been established in the Assembly, leaving no room for compromise.

"It is not right to say things like mob lynching, because a strict law has been made in the Assembly for cow protection and there is no compromise on it...I want to say that such incidents should not happen and these incidents are unfortunate…," CM Nayab Singh Saini said as quoted by news agency ANI.
