Nuh Violence, August 3, Highlights: CM Khattar Assures Strict Action Against Miscreants, Three UP Districts, Delhi On High-Alert

Haryana Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala on Nuh's situation said, "Haryana Govt took action over the incident in Mewat. Paramilitary was deployed and a permanent battalion of IRB is also deployed there. The situation is under control today...Peace meetings have been held and I believe that all of us should do our duty to maintain peace...More than 40 FIRs have been registered, over 100 people were taken under Police custody and more than 90 people have even been arrested. Govt is taking stringent action against those who indulged in vandalism and spreading violence."

The mobile internet services will remain suspended in four tehsils of Rajasthan's Bharatpur district till Thursday morning in view of the violence in Haryana's Nuh district, officials said on Wednesday.  Prohibitory orders were imposed in two areas of Bharatpur and 10 areas of Alwar district in Rajasthan, they said. 

Amid ongoing unrest in Haryana, an alert has been sounded in Saharanpur, Shamli and Muzaffarnagar districts of Uttar Pradesh bordering Haryana, a senior police official said on Wednesday. Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Saharanpur Range, Ajay Kumar Sahni added that checking is also being conducted in areas along the Haryana-Uttar Pradesh border to keep an eye on anarchic elements. 

Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson Swati Maliwal, in a tweet, claimed that a slogan -- "blood will be shed on streets" -- was raised outside Nangloi police station in Delhi. Posting the video with her tweet, she claimed the clip was being widely circulated on social media since Monday.

While addressing the media, Haryana CM also said that "Rajasthan govt had registered an FIR against Bajrang Dal's Monu Manesar. We have told them that whatever help is required to look for him will be provided by us..."

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Wednesday said six people, including two home guards, have died in the communal violence in the state while 116 have been arrested. He further said that those who are responsible for the violence will be held accountable for all losses of private properties. However, the state government will incur any loss of public properties that was caused during the violence, he added.

PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti says, "SC is hearing petitions today from Manipur and Haryana. SC is the only hope. The Supreme Court has to see whether this country will run according to the constitution or a party agenda. BJP's sole agenda is to finish the democracy. If SC wants to save this country, they’ll have to protect the Constitution. Only SC can save it now."

The Supreme Court issues notice to Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi governments to heighten security as the states witness widespread protests over Nuh violence. On a plea in the Supreme Court, the lawyer tells the court that 23 protest marches are being organised in Delhi today. The Supreme Court asks authorities to ensure tight security and CCTV surveillance of the protests to prevent any escalation. The matter has further been listed on August 4.

Haryana Transport Minister Moolchand Sharma says, "This is a sad incident which is not good for the country nor the state. We will take action against those who are involved in this incident...We never expected this type of incident will take place."

"Other than 116 people we have arrested, we have detained 90 people and investigation is being done...Apart from the incident that occurred in Gurugram mosque, some fire incidents also occurred in Sohna and Badshahpur and strict actions are being taken at these places as well," says DGP Haryana PK Agrawal.

"In Nuh, no violent incidents have occurred since yesterday. So far, 41 FIRs have been registered and 116 people have been arrested. Those people will be taken to court today and investigation will take place. We'll take the required action based on the investigation," says DGP Haryana PK Agrawal.

On Haryana's  Nuh incident, Congress MP Randeep Surjewala says, "What was the government doing when these violent clashes broke out in Gurugram, Nuh, Sohna... This was the malice of the government (Haryana government)."

Members of right wing group Bajrang Dal hold massive protests in Delhi, blocking a route between the national capital and neighbouring Faridabad, says reports.

"In the last two days, 15 FIRs have been registered. After the incident happened on July 31, there has been a significant reduction in such incidents. We are closely monitoring the hotspots and sensitive areas... Eight accused have been arrested so far and preventive action was taken against 30 people. In sector 57 at Anjuman mosque in Gurugram, a mob gathered and incited this incident in which two persons got injured and one died on the spot, now the other person is stable," ACP Crime Varun Kumar Dahiya.

National Conference (NC) President Farooq Abdullah reacts to violence in Haryana and says, "Whatever happened in Nuh is heartbreaking. Fighting over religion is not good for India. India is everyone's country, every religion here has the right to grow."

"In Haryana, the incitement of riots, its spread into parts of Gurugram without any constraint, triggering of violence and huge loss of public property and religious places prove the failure of law and order in Haryana just like Manipur," says BSP Chief Mayawati.

Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij says, "The situation in Nuh is under control...Around 44 FIRs have been registered. 116 people have been arrested till now. There is a conspiracy behind this. The way stones, weapons, and bullets were found, it seems there is a mastermind behind this. We will conduct a detailed investigation and take strict actions against the people involved in this."

Right-wing outfits Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad are staging protests across the national capital against the violence that started in Haryana's Nuh, reports news agency PTI.

Delhi Police beefs up security at sensitive places in the national capital in the wake of violence neighbouring Haryana districts. According to Haryana Police, a cleric was killed in a late-night attack on a place of worship in Gurugram and an eatery was torched and shops vandalised shops in communal violence.

"Keeping in view the violence in some districts of Haryana, adjoining Delhi, elaborate security arrangements have been made at all sensitive places in Delhi and additional police forces have also been deployed where necessary," news agency PTI quotes Delhi Police. The police have also warned that any attempt to harm Delhi's security and communal harmony will be dealt with strictly.

Vehicles like trucks, vans, buses are being checked thoroughly. Jhinjhana police station in-charge Virendra Kasana also reached Bidauli post on Tuesday morning. During this, he instructed the policemen that every person should be monitored. Apart from this, vigilance has been heightened on the Kairana border.

Since Monday night, the Uttar Pradesh Police has been carrying out strict checking at Bidauli and Kairana borders. The police have been noting down the information of every person crossing the Haryana border and reaching Shamli.

The Uttar Pradesh Police is on alert after the violence in Haryana's Nuh. Every person's name and address is being noted down at the Haryana border. The police teams are inspecting vehicles crossing the border day and night, Dainik Jagran reports.

"The yatra organisers did not give complete information about the yatra to the district administration. The incident took place due to this...Strict action will be taken against those found responsible for the incident," news agency ANI quotes Haryana Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala as saying.

"All schools, colleges and workplaces are functioning normally. There are no restrictions on the movement of traffic. The internet is also operational," says ACP Varun Dahiya (Crime), Gurugram.

The Gurugram police has appealed to the public not to disrupt the law and order situation in the city. "Amid violence reported in Gurugram, a number of police personnel have been deployed at key locations across Gurugram. People can inform the Gurugram police while dialling 112 about any violence," Varun Dahiya, ACP (crime) said.

In Gurugram's Sector 57 area, a 26-year-old man was killed and a place of worship set ablaze as the violence spread from neighbouring Nuh district, the police said.

At least four eateries and scrap shops were set on fire by a group of people in the Badshahpur area. More than 200 men in different vehicles carrying petrol bottles set them on fire, news agency ANI reports.

Several meat shops, scrap shops and furniture repairing shops were attacked at Pataudi Chowk in Khandsa Road in Gurugram, while multiple shanties were set on fire in Sector-70 on Tuesday. No casualties were reported in any of the incidents, according to the fire officials. 

After fresh violence broke out in Gurugram on Tuesday, some multinational corporations, including American Express and KPMG, have advised employees to work from home today.

In the violence that ripped through various districts of Haryana, as many as five deaths have been reported so far. The deceased include two homeguards while several other policemen were injured amid stone pelting and arson that began on Monday.

Amid prevailing communal tensions, heavy police deployment was seen in th Nuh district of Haryana where the violence broke out on July 31. The district remains under section 144 of CrPC and internet services continue to be suspended.
