Himachal Pradesh Bus Accident: At least 14 people were killed, and 35 others were injured after a private bus carrying passengers veered off the road and plunged into a 400-metre deep gorge in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district on Friday.
The bus was travelling from Solan to Kupvi when it lost control and plunged into a 300-meter-deep gorge near Haripurdhar market. More than 50 passengers were believed to be on board at the time of the accident.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Sirmaur Superintendent of Police Nishchint Singh Negi said that police and rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the site, and relief operations are underway. A large number of local residents also rushed to the site to assist in rescue efforts, pulling passengers from the wreckage.
The injured were rushed to Haripurdhar Hospital for medical treatment. The vehicle, carrying 30-35 passengers, was reportedly overloaded with passengers. However, the cause of the accident is unknown, and an investigation is underway.
The exact number of injured is yet to be confirmed. Confirming the accident, Deputy Chief Minister and Transport Minister Mukesh Agnihotri offered condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
Himachal CM Reacts, PM Modi Announces Ex-Gratia
Following the incident, Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and instructed district authorities to extend full support to the victims’ families.
"The news of the extremely tragic bus accident that occurred near Haripur Dhar in Sirmaur district has left my heart anguished and filled with sorrow. I extend my deepest condolences to those who lost their lives in this accident, and my full sympathy is with the grieving families. Instructions have been issued to the district administration to provide every possible assistance to the families of the deceased and to ensure the best medical facilities for the injured, so that the affected families may receive support during this difficult time. I pray to God that the departed souls find peace, that the families receive the strength to bear this irreparable loss, and that all the injured recover their health swiftly. We all stand together with the affected families in this hour of grief," the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences over the deaths and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the deceased. "The loss of lives due to a bus mishap in Sirmaur, Himachal Pradesh, is extremely saddening. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. Praying for the speedy recovery of those injured. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000," the PMO said.

Congress MLA Offers Condolences
Following the incident, Congress MLA from Renuka and State Congress President Vinay Kumar expressed deep sorrow over the tragic road accident involving the Jeet Coach bus in Haripurdhar.
Calling the incident shocking and deeply painful, he urged all Congress workers in the Haripurdhar area to reach the site immediately and assist the administration in relief and rescue operations. Vinay Kumar emphasised that it is the moral duty of the community to support the victims and their families during this difficult time. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and affirmed that the Congress party stands in full solidarity with those affected, Times Now reported.
