State Bureau, Shimla: Election preparations have begun in Himachal Pradesh for municipal corporations in Una, Baddi, and Hamirpur. The State Election Commission (SEC) has now started work on remaining urban local bodies after conducting elections in four municipal corporations and 53 urban bodies earlier.

Preparations Begin In Una, Baddi And Hamirpur

According to Jagran.com report, the voter list revision process has been initiated in Baddi, Una, and Nagar Panchayat Beed. If the government cooperates, elections in these bodies may be held within six months or even earlier. The Commission has fixed April 1, 2026, as the eligibility date for voter list preparation. The draft voter list will be published on June 8, while the final voter list will be released on or before July 4.

Voters List Update

Draft voter lists will be available for inspection at the offices of Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), municipal corporations, municipal councils, and tehsil offices. The lists will also be available on the Commission’s website and the Voter Sarathi app.

Claims and Objections Timeline

Eligible citizens can apply to include their name in the voter list, request corrections, deletion, or raise objections within the specified period. Claims and objections will be accepted until June 18. These will be disposed of by June 22.

The poll body has further clarified that voter lists for local body elections are different from those of the Election Commission of India (ECI). Only those voters whose names are included in the SEC list will be eligible to vote in local body elections. Citizens have been advised to verify their names in the list.

Why Were Elections Delayed?

Earlier, elections were to be held in all seven municipal corporations except the new Shimla Municipal Corporation. However, elections in Baddi, Una, and Hamirpur were delayed. In Baddi and Una, voter lists were not ready and reservation rosters were not issued. In Hamirpur, the voter list was ready but the reservation roster was pending. In the recent elections, BJP won in Dharamshala, Mandi, and Solan, while Congress won in Palampur.

Draft voter list publication: June 8, 2026
Claims and objections: until June 18, 2026
Disposal of objections: by June 22, 2026
Last date for appeal: June 30, 2026
Disposal of appeals: by July 3, 2026
Final voter list publication: on or before July 4, 2026
