Himachal Cloudbursts: The death toll due to flash floods triggered by cloudbursts in three districts of Himachal Pradesh has increased to 16 with the recovery of two more bodies from Shimla district on Monday, during the fifth day of the search operation. At least 39 people are still missing after a series of cloudbursts occurred in Kullu's Nirmand, Sainj and Malana, Mandi's Padhar and Shimla's Rampur subdivision on the night of July 31 and wreaked havoc, jagran.com reported.

The two bodies were found in Dogri near Sunni Dam in Shimla. One body was identified as a girl and the other of a man. The girl is estimated to be between 14 and 17 years old.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Shimla Abhishek Verma said that the body of the man was mutilated. Kullu district administration has also been informed about this. 33 people are missing in Shimla.

It is suspected that these bodies reached the dam by floating in the Sutlej river from Samej village due to cloudburst. 28 people are missing in Samej in Shimla, nine in Bagipul in Kullu and two in Rajban in Mandi. Search operations are on to find these people. Search dogs, drones and live detectors are being used.

According to the latest forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday, August 6, a ‘yellow’ alert has been issued regarding heavy rainfall and flash floods at some places in five districts of the state: Kangra, Shimla, Chamba, Mandi and Sirmaur.

Himachal Cloudbursts: 75 Roads Closed

A warning of heavy rain has been issued at some places in Solan. During the last 24 hours, the highest rainfall in the state has been recorded in Hamirpur (74 mm), Dehra Gopipur (32 mm), Palampur (28 mm) and Nahan (25 mm). 75 roads are closed in the state and efforts are being made to open them. Meanwhile, 68 transformers are out of order.
