Himachal Pradesh Flash Floods: Around 50 people are feared dead, while six bodies were discovered by Saturday after catastrophic flash floods wreaked widespread destruction in Kullu, Mandi and Shimla regions of Himachal Pradesh. State Minister Vikramaditya Singh said that the official count can only be declared after the completion of the rescue operation. The flash flood occurred after a cloudburst on the intervening night of July 31 and August 1.
The disaster, which stuck in multiple areas in the Himalayan state, has also washed away over 60 houses, Special Secretary DC Rana of the DDMA said. Among the missing, 33 people reportedly belonged to a single extended family.

1. Himachal Pradesh Leader of the Opposition and BJP leader, Jairam Thakur, inspected the flood-affected areas of Kullu and stated that significant damage has occurred. He also said that Prime Minister Modi has assured all possible help to the state.
2. "The situation here is a matter of concern. The people were not able to recover from the past situations and this incident has occurred again. A huge loss has happened. Several people are missing. Rescue is underway by the central government and PM Modi has also assured that he will provide all possible help to the state," he said.
3. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu spoke to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and demanded help from the centre. Meanwhile, an immediate help of Rs 50,000 was also announced for the affected families, the state Minister said.
4. "Samej village is completely damaged, people's houses are destroyed. This is a very sad situation. We need to be alert. The Chief Minister has spoken to the Union Home Minister, and he has assured us of help. We are confident that we will get help from the central government," Himachal Pradesh Congress President Pratibha Singh said on Saturday.

5. The Army on Saturday constructed a temporary footbridge across the Samej Khad to speed up flood relief operations and restoration works, IANS reported.
6. Cloudbursts and heavy rains have caused flash floods and landslides, leading to the closure of 114 roads in Himachal Pradesh. The weather department warned on Saturday that the state would continue to experience heavy showers until August 7.
