Himachal Rains Fury: The Monsoon fury continued to wreak havoc in northern states, including Himachal Pradesh, causing a series of incidents of landslides. On Friday, Himachal's State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), said 1,087 roads, 2,838 power supply lines and 509 water supply schemes have been disrupted across the state due to rain-related incidents.
According to the SDMA, the death toll from the disaster has increased to 360 since June 20, 2025, out of which 197 deaths have been caused by rain-related incidents such as landslides, flash floods, cloudbursts, drowning, lightning and other weather-related accidents. Road accidents have claimed 163 more lives during the same period.
Here Are The Other Highlights Of Himachal Rain Menace
- Mandi district recorded the highest number of rain-related deaths (36), followed by Kangra (31), Kullu (20), Chamba (21) and Shimla (21). The SDMA said 37 deaths were caused by landslides, 9 by flash floods, 17 by cloudburst, 33 by drowning incidents, 15 each by lightning and falls, and 28 by other causes.
- The SDMA report shows that 426 people have been injured and 1,440 animals have died in monsoon-induced disasters, while 47 people are missing.
- The total financial loss is estimated to be over Rs 3,979.52 crore, with massive damage to both public and private infrastructure.
- An SDMA spokesperson said repair work of blocked roads, damaged water supply schemes and disrupted power lines was being carried out on a war footing. He further said that agriculture, horticulture and livestock have suffered unprecedented losses this season.
- About 350 stranded Manimahesh pilgrims were on Friday evacuated from Bharmaur to Chamba in Himachal Pradesh by IAF helicopters, officials said. Hundreds of pilgrims are still stranded in different parts of Chamba district, especially in Bharmaur assembly constituency.
- Seventeen pilgrims have died so far since the start of Manimahesh Yatra on August 15 and hundreds of pilgrims are still stranded in different parts of Chamba district especially Bharmaur area. However, there are unverified reports that that the death toll could be far higher.
- Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas of Kullu and Manali and gave necessary directions to the officers regarding restoration and opening of blocked roads.
