Himachal Landslide: As many as three vehicles were badly damaged after being hit by a landslide due to heavy rain in the upper region of Haripurdhar town of Sirmaur district. The incident took place at around 1:30 AM on Saturday, following which 11 roads were closed in the Sirmaur district.
Heavy rain triggered landslides on the Haripurdhar Kupvi road at around 1:30 AM on July 12. The security wall of the building came under the grip of a landslide. Two vehicles on the road were badly damaged, while one vehicle suffered minor damage. A major accident was averted as there was no vehicular movement at midnight.
Following the landslide, there was a long queue of vehicles on both sides of the road as traffic movement on Haripurdhar Kupvi road remained halted for about 11 hours. Hours later, the road was opened for light vehicles at 12:30 PM on Sunday and for big vehicles at 2 PM.
Due to a landslide and continuous downpour, 11 roads were closed. Among the closed roads, one road of Nahan subdivision, two each of Paonta and Shillai subdivisions, and three each of Rajgarh and Sangrah subdivisions remained obstructed. The Public Works Department restored four of these roads.
Most of the buses coming to Nahan from Haripurdhar remained stuck near the temple. Other vehicles were able to leave for Nahan and other places only after noon. The security wall of the Assistant Engineer's office has collapsed, and the building is also in danger. Meanwhile, Assistant Engineer of the Public Works Department, Abhishek Verma, said that the road was opened at 2 PM.
