BJP MP from Hisar, Brijendra Singh, on Sunday joined Congress in the presence of Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi. This came hours after Singh tendered his resignation from the primary membership of the saffron party. He cited ‘compelling’ political reasons for this decision.

“I have resigned from the primary membership of BJP, due to compelling political reasons. I extend gratitude to the party, National President Sh. JP Nadda, Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi, & Sh Amit Shah for giving me the opportunity to serve as the Member of Parliament for Hisar,” Brijendra wrote on X.

This came after the speculations that the BJP might deny him a Lok Sabha ticket from Hisar this time.

Brijendra is a former bureaucrat, who is the great-grandson of the renowned farmers' leader Chotu Ram. He served as a DC in Panchkula. His mother Premlata Singh had represented the Uchana assembly seat. He took voluntary retirement after serving the nation for 21 years.
