Despite residents' protests against the proposed greenfield airport in Parandur due to environmental concerns, especially those pertaining to wetlands spanning 2,605 acres, the Tamil Nadu government has shortlisted two sites for an Airport Authority of India survey for a new airport in Hosur.
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government sees the two new international airports as part of a larger infrastructure project that would make Tamil Nadu the best place in Asia for investments and a trillion-dollar economy by 2030.
According to those with knowledge of the situation, two possible locations for the airport are close to Taneja Aviation and Aerospace Limited at Belagondapalli and Shoolagiri. Hosur is an industrial town in the Krishnagiri district, around 85 kilometres from Bengaluru. The airport is expected to be more than 2,000 acres in size and can accommodate 30 million people a year.
In order to determine the airspace that is off-limits to obstructions, a state government official stated that they were finalising a consultant to carry out an Obstacle Limitation Surface survey in Hosur.

“Two locations have been finalised,” he said, requesting anonymity.
According to the Bengaluru International Airport Limited's agreement with the Union government, the Hosur airport cannot be built within 150 kilometres of Kempegowda International Airport until 2033.
Tamil Nadu currently has international airports at Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, and Tiruchirapalli.
