IIT Guwahati News:  A 21-year-old student was found dead in his hostel room at the campus of the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT-G) on Monday, marking the second student death at the prestigious engineering college in just two months. Bimlesh Kumar, a third-year B.Tech Computer Science student, was found dead by fellow hostellers in his room at Brahmaputra Hostel, this morning.

According to initial reports, the cause of death of the UP student was suicide. The incident, however, sparked protests with hundreds of IIT Guwahati students questioning the institute's poor mental health and welfare support systems.

The body of the deceased has been sent to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for a postmortem examination, NDTV reported. The same report also mentioned that this was the fourth student death this year in the college.

Meanwhile, the college administration also issued a statement offering condolences to the student's family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.

IITG is deeply saddened to report the loss of a student from our community. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the student's family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time," a statement by IITG stated.
