What started with an investigation into the illegal betting racket unravelled a money trail that led the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to a lavish Udaipur wedding, linked to a political figure, organised by the money from a Rapido driver's bank account.
The stunning money trail was traced by the central law enforcement agency while investigating the 1xBet illegal betting racket.
The ED found that a whopping Rs 331.36 crore was deposited between August 2024 and April 2025 in the account of a Rapido driver.
From the humongous amount, Rs 1 crore was spent for a lavish destination wedding at Udaipur's Taj Aravalli Resort. The wedding was linked to Gujarat youth political figure Aditya Zula and took place in November last year.
However, the driver seems to have no connection with either the wife or the groom. The investigators believe it to a classic case of a mule account misused for pumping money.
The money was deposited and sent out immediately into suspicious accounts. Following the trail, one of such trails has led the ED to a bank account linked to an illegal betting operation.
The third-party account was most likely used to hide the real source of the money. In case of illegal transactions, frauds, and cybercrimes, among others, such practice is becoming more common.
A senior ED officer cautioned that such trends are becoming common, noting that many people hand over their account access, thinking it's harmless, only to later face legal consequences when the account is used to move proceeds of crime.
This case highlights how mule accounts are increasingly being used to finance high-end celebrations and other costly events, turning unsuspecting individuals into the financial front for illicit operations.

The probe agency is now verifying more sources and destinations of these transactions that took place from the said account.
Recently, the agency had attached assets worth crores of rupees of former cricketers Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina as part of the 1xbet probe.
