A house in Punjab's Jalandhar district belonging to slain Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, and another property in Chandigarh owned by Sikhs for Justice chief Gurpatwant Singh Pannun were confiscated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday. The property confiscations were carried out on the basis of one or more orders passed by Mohali's special NIA court. Pannun's house was seized under Section 33(5) of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), as per the notice erected outside the confiscated property.

Sikhs for Justice is a pro-Khalistan outfit that was banned by the Government of India under UAPA in 2019. Pannun is currently living in the United States and is the subject of an extradition request by the Indian government. In a recent video message, he threatened Hindus living in Canada to leave the country amid the diplomatic row between Ottawa and New Delhi over Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's allegations against the Indian government regarding the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Nijjar, an Indian-born Canadian citizen, was heading Khalistan Tiger Force at the time of his murder, which took place in June this year in Surrey, British Columbia. Khalistan Tiger Force is a proscribed terror outfit in India. Earlier this week, after accusing "Indian intelligence agents" of being responsible for Nijjar's murder, the Trudeau government declared a senior Indian diplomat 'persona non grata'.

India responded to the move by expelling one of Canada's top diplomats posted in New Delhi. Amid the row, India issued an advisory for its citizens travelling to and residing in Canada after the latter warned its citizens to exercise caution while visiting India.
