Pahalgam Attack: India has raised concerns over the unprovoked firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir with Pakistani authorities amid the increasing tensions between the two neighbouring nations over the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The directors general of military operations of India and Pakistan spoke on the hotline, with an Indian official cautioning the Pakistani counterpart about the unprovoked firing at the LoC.

"Director Generals of Military Operations of India and Pakistan talked over the hotline yesterday to discuss the unprovoked ceasefire violations by Pakistan. India warned Pakistan against the unprovoked violations by the Pakistan army along the Line of Control," news agency ANI quoted people familiar with the matter.

The exchange between the Directors General of Military Operations, which took place on Tuesday, came as Pakistani troops had been continuously violating the ceasefire along the international border with unprovoked firing for the past six days.

The Indian Army has effectively responded to the Pakistan Army's small arms firing. The Army responded swiftly to the ceasefire violation on the night of April 27-28 in areas opposite Kupwara and Poonch districts in Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Army had also responded effectively to the Pakistan Army firing along the LoC on the night of April 26-27 in areas opposite the Tutmari Gali and Rampur sectors.

Security forces have intensified anti-terror operations in the Kashmir valley in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people on April 22. The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) met a day after the Pahalgam terror attack. In the briefing to the CCS, the cross-border linkages of the terrorist attack were brought out.

Following the attack, India has taken strong countermeasures against Pakistan for its support of cross-border terrorism. In the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 23, India decided to hold the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 in abeyance until Pakistan credibly and irrevocably ends its support for cross-border terrorism and closes the integrated Attari Check Post.

India has also declared the officials of the Pakistani High Commission as Persona Non Grata and ordered them to leave India within a week. India has also decided to cancel any visas provided under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) and ordered Pakistan to leave the country within 48 hours.
