The wait for India's first Hydrogen train is set to end in 10 days, as the service will start on July 17 in Haryana, as part of the Centre's 'Green Transportation Mission' and 'Make in India' initiative.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will personally inaugurate the train. The design of the train was developed by the "Designs and Standards Organisation" and is built at the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai.
Haryana Hydrogen Train Features
India's first hydrogen train will have a capacity to carry over 2,600 passengers. The train is equipped with a 1,200-kilowatt hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system.

The hydrogen, stored in high-pressure tanks on top of or inside the train, will be sent into the fuel cell, where it will react with the oxygen from the air. The reaction will produce electricity, water and heat.
The same electricity will power electric motors that will drive the train's wheels. The hydrogen is called a future fuel as it leaves heat and water as residue, unlike carbon dioxide in traditional engines.
This train is a major step forward in the Indian government's clean energy and net-zero strategy.
Stoppages, Speed, route and fare
The train will run on the 89-kilometre-long Jind-Sonipat route and will have approximately four to five stops.
The train will reach a speed of up to 140 kmph. For short-distance travel like the Jind-Sonipat route, the train will be most effective.
The fares of the train will range from approximately Rs 5 to Rs 25.

Trial completed
Earlier on June 26, a trial run of the 10-car Hydrogen trainset was conducted on the Jind-Sonipat section of Northern Railway.
The test focused on key parameters including emergency braking distance and train oscillation. According to the Ministry of Railways, the trainset is "all set to start soon" and will run at a maximum speed of 75 kmph using a "1200 KW hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system."
