India and Canada's diplomatic relations have gone for a toss over the last week following Jutin Trudeau government's allegations of Indian agent's involvement in killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Amid escalating tensions and tit-for-tat expulsion of top diplomats in both countries, the Indian government has taken the decision to suspend all Visas including E-Visas for Canadian citizens with immediate effect until further notice citing Ottawa's inaction on threats to terrorist elements.

The move sent an alarm to all Canadian tourists and business travellers including former Indian citizens who rushed to change flight tickets and itineraries. Tensions also rose people in Punjab as it accounts of a large number of students studying or planning to study in Canada.

The row has also sparked a wave of panic among relatives of people who are currently in the country to pursue academic courses or are working in Canada. Reportedly parents of such students have been calling their children on an everyday basis to take stock of their situation in the country.

A mother, on the condition of anonymity, said that her daughter is getting married soon, and her siblings who currently stay in Canada are finding it difficult to reach home given the tense situation. "The government should resolve the matter as soon as possible and remove the ban on visas. The wedding date is in December," the parent remarked.
