Air connectivity between India and the United States (US) is set to face significant disruption, as Tata Group-owned Air India has cancelled over 60 flights on this route between November and December, as per sources cited by News 18. These cancellations, affecting services to destinations like San Francisco and Chicago, come during the peak travel season.
The airline stated that the decision was made due to delays in the return of some aircraft from heavy maintenance and supply chain constraints. It added that affected customers have been notified and offered alternative flights on other Air India group services operating on the same or nearby days.

“Air India has cancelled some 60 flights to and from San Francisco, Washington, Chicago, Newark and New York between November 15 and December 31, as it does not have adequate wide-body aircraft to operate some of the flights to these destinations,” PTI reported citing sources.
A total of 14 flights have been cancelled on the Delhi-Chicago route, 28 on the Delhi-Washington route, 12 on the Delhi-San Francisco route, four on the Mumbai-New York route, and two on the Delhi-Newark route.
“Air India is facing delays in getting aircraft from the MRO operator it is sending to for maintenance. Then some of its wide-body planes are also grounded due to technical issues. This has resulted in the shortage of aircraft and consequently in flight cancellations,” it added.
