India Weather Today LIVE Updates: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast further rainfall in the Delhi-NCR region on Thursday, September 4, with light showers and thunderstorms expected in Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad. Gurugram has been put under a more intense orange alert. Adding to the concerns, the Yamuna River in Delhi continued to rise on Thursday, reaching 207.48 metres at 6 am. Meanwhile, relentless monsoon rains have triggered one of Punjab’s worst flood crises in decades, with the overflowing Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi rivers wreaking havoc across all 23 districts. The floods have been fueled by incessant downpours and flash floods originating in the catchment areas of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.
In Himachal Pradesh, the government has ordered the closure of all government and private schools and colleges, including District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs), until September 7, citing heavy rainfall and widespread damage across the state. The flood threat also continues to loom large in the Jammu division and Kashmir Valley, where authorities have begun preventive evacuations from low-lying and flood-prone areas in Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama, and Srinagar districts.
As North India continues to battle the fury of an intense monsoon season, state and central agencies remain on high alert, urging citizens to stay cautious and follow official advisories.
