IndiGo Flight Cancellations: IndiGo, the country’s largest airline, faced major disruptions on Thursday, cancelling more than 550 flights out of its usual 2,300 daily operations. The airline told the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) that more flights will be cancelled in the next 2-3 days as it struggles to comply with the new Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) norms.

This development comes as the aviation watchdog and Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu, along with officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), reviewed operational disruptions and widespread flight cancellations across the network, news agency PTI reported.

What IndiGo Told DGCA On New Airline FTDL Norms?

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation conducted a detailed review meeting with IndiGo’s senior leadership in response to significant operational disruptions reported across the airline’s network since late November 2025.

- IndiGo told DGCA that the airline is facing major transitional challenges in roster planning and crew availability under the Phase-2 FDTL requirements.

- The airline said these operational hurdles, accompanied by winter-season constraints, have triggered a surge in flight cancellations and delays, with more than 550 flights cancelled on Thursday.

- In a bid to minimise passenger inconvenience while ensuring safety, the airline has sought operational exemptions from certain FDTL norms.

- IndiGo has assured DGCA that corrective measures are underway and that normal operations are expected to resume by February 10, 2026.

- IndiGo also acknowledged that recent disruptions stem mainly from ‘misjudgments and planning gaps’ in implementing Phase 2 of the FDTL CAR, admitting that actual crew requirements exceeded initial estimates.

- The updated Flight Duty Time Limitation (FTDL) norms were introduced in two phases on July 1 and November 1, 2025, following court directives, aiming to enhance fatigue management and improve overall flight safety.

- The airline also warned of additional flight cancellations in the next two to three days as it works to stabilise schedules, and from December 8 onwards, it will reduce its flight operations to minimise passenger disruption.

Amid widespread flight disruptions, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu ordered IndiGo to urgently stabilise operations while keeping airfares unaffected, emphasising that passengers should not bear the brunt of the airline’s operational challenges.
