Just a day after the NEET UG re-test was conducted smoothly across states, Indore police arrested a man for allegedly creating and selling a fake NEET-2026 question paper online. The accused, Akshay Malviya, a resident of Lasudiya in Indore, was arrested on Sunday by the Crime Branch and a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
During questioning, he reportedly admitted that he generated the fake paper using ChatGPT and distributed it to students for Rs 100-Rs 200 per copy.
Police said the accused had planned the operation in advance and used Instagram to circulate his claims. He allegedly posted messages inviting students to contact him for the “NEET exam paper,” which led to responses from over 200 aspirants across the country.
Officials stated that cyber surveillance teams had been put on alert before the examination, and during routine monitoring, suspicious online activity linked to the accused was detected.
Investigators have so far traced around Rs 25,000 in the accused’s bank account and are examining transaction records for further details. Authorities are also identifying students who may have purchased the fake papers, while the accused’s mobile phone has been seized for forensic analysis. Officials suspect that others may be involved in distributing similar content.
The arrest came after Kota Police sent an alert email to Indore Police on Saturday regarding the case. Acting on the input, a Special Investigation Team led by TI Neeraj Medha initiated action and apprehended the accused.
Earlier, a Kota student had earlier filed a complaint related to a suspected NEET paper leak, and the accused’s social media reel claiming to provide exam papers had already been flagged by multiple agencies. Inputs were subsequently shared by the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Intelligence, Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), and Special Task Force (STF).
The incident comes amid ongoing concerns among students and parents nationwide over examination irregularities and allegations of paper leaks.
