Indore Tragedy: Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Uma Bharti criticised her own government over the contaminated water issue in Indore, which led to 15 deaths so far and left several others with severe health issues. Bharti, in a series of posts on social media platform X on Friday, described the deaths as a profound shame for the administration and calling it a critical test for CM Mohan Yadav.

Bharti expressed deep anguish over the incident in the Bhagirathpura area, where sewage mixed with drinking water pipelines led to a diarrhoea outbreak.

In two social media posts, she listed lapses and demanded stringent action against responsible officials.

1. In the case of Indore's contaminated water, who is saying that our plan didn't work?

2. When your plan didn't work, why did you continue to drink Bisleri water while sitting in your position? Why didn't you leave the position and reach out to the public?

3. There is no explanation for such sins—either atonement or punishment!

4. The deaths due to drinking contaminated water in Indore by the end of the year 2025 have shamed and disgraced our state, our government, and our entire system.

5. In the city that received the award for being the cleanest city in the state, such ugliness, filth, and poisoned water that has swallowed so many lives and continues to do so, the death toll is rising.

6. The price of life is not two lakh rupees because their families remain immersed in grief for a lifetime. A severe atonement must be made for this sin, an apology must be sought from the affected people, and maximum punishment must be given to all the culprits from bottom to top.

7. This is a testing time for Mr. Mohan Yadav.

She demanded severe penance, a public apology to victims, and maximum punishment for all responsible parties, from junior officials to top leaders. "Not just the Mayor of Indore, but the entire government and administration stand in the dock of public accountability," she wrote.
