Indore, the largest city of Madhya Pradesh, has been adjudged as the Best Smart City in India at the India Smart Cities Conclave 2023 held in the city on Wednesday. The conclave was attended by President Droupadi Murmu, MP Governor Mangubhai Patel, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and several other dignitaries.

Indore also topped the categories of sanitation, urban environment and water among the 100 cities selected for the smart city competition. Madhya Pradesh emerged as the best state in terms of smart city development, followed by Tamil Nadu while Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh tied for third place.

President Droupadi Murmu praised Indore for its remarkable transformation and urged the cities to work on a comprehensive roadmap for the future, keeping in mind the challenges of climate change and urbanization. She also lauded the Climate Smart Cities Assessment Framework launched for India’s 100 smart cities.

“We have to achieve our objectives by moving towards Sustainable Development Goals. The goal of SDG 11 is to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. This goal underlines the importance of holistic and inclusive development of cities,” she said as quoted by news agency ANI.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri hailed Indore as a model of urban development and highlighted its famous “Chappan Dukan” as a symbol of its vibrant culture. He also congratulated Surat and Agra for securing second and third place respectively in the smart city ranking.

CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan credited the public participation and cooperation for Indore’s and MP’s achievements and presented a Gond painting as a gift to the President at the end of the event.
