The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC) has launched an e-pantry service on 25 mail and express trains. Passengers travelling on these trains can now book meals online before starting their journey.

According to IRCTC, the e-pantry meal booking facility has been launched for the convenience of passengers on mail/express trains, where meals are not included in the ticket fare. E-pantry is a digital solution that allows pre-booking of meals on select trains with pantry cars. With the introduction of e-pantry service on mail/express trains, passengers can now book their meals in advance and travel hassle-free.

Where And How Will Booking Be Done?

Passengers can use the meal booking facility from the IRCTC website. This feature is also integrated into the IRCTC ticket booking platform. Now, meals can be booked while booking tickets or even after booking tickets. This facility allows passengers with confirmed, RAC, or partially confirmed tickets to pre-order standard meals and Rail Neer, which will be delivered directly to their seats by pantry car staff.

Booking: Passengers can choose the e-Pantry Meal option during the booking process on the IRCTC website (www.irctc.co.in), from the confirmation page or from the “Booked Ticket History” section.

Confirmation: After booking, the passenger receives a confirmation message and a Meal Verification Code (MVC) via SMS or email.

Meal Delivery: On the day of travel, passengers share an MVC with a vendor who delivers pre-ordered meals directly to their seats.
