New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: The four death-row convicts of the Nirbhaya case were hanged till death on March 20 at 5.30 am in Tihar Jail, seven years and three months after they committed the dreadful crime that shock the nation.

The four convicts -- Mukesh Singh (32), Pawan Gupta (25), Vinay Sharma (26) and Akshay Singh (31) – had exhausted all their legal remedies, following which a Delhi court issued a death warrant against them on March 4.

Following the hanging, Nirbhaya’s mother Asha Devi said that her daughter has finally got ‘justice’, thanking the judiciary and government.

“Finally they have been hanged, it was a long struggle. Today we got justice, this day is dedicated to the daughters of the country. I thank the judiciary and government,” Asha Devi said, as quoted by news agency ANI.

As Nirbhaya convicts get hanged, seven years after the awful crime, here’s how the country reacted:

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy: All loopholes in IPC (Indian Penal Code) and CrPC (Code of Criminal Procedure) were revealed through Nirbhaya Case. Quick punishment should be given in such matters. So Govt of India wants to bring some changes in IPC, CrPC.

* Union Minister Smriti Irani: I greet this day with aplomb that justice has finally been done to Nirbhaya. Nirbhaya case convicts' hanging is a message for every criminal that one day law will catch up with you.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal: It took 7 yrs for justice to be delivered. Today, we've to take a pledge that a similar incident does not happen again. We've seen how the convicts manipulated the law until recently. There are a lot of loopholes in our system, we need to improve the system

* Chairperson Delhi Commission for Women Swati Maliwal: It's a historic day, Nirbhaya got justice after over 7 years, her soul must have found peace today. Country has given a strong message to rapists that if you commit this crime you will be hanged

Chairperson of National Commission for Women (NCW) Rekha Sharma: An example has been set today but it could have been done earlier. Now people know that they will be punished, you may extend the date but you will get punished
