Jagdeep Dhankhar, former vice president, was admitted to the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, on Monday after he fell unconscious twice on January 10, officials said.
The officials said he had "two bouts of unconsciousness" when he went to the washroom on January 10. Dhankhar will undergo an MRI scan at the AIIMS.
He had visited AIIMSA for a check-up, but the doctors insisted that he get admitted for tests. The officials said, "Today, he had gone to AIIMS for a checkup when the doctors insisted that he should get admitted for tests."
Dhankhar blacked out on many occasions
In the past, Dhankhar had blacked out on multiple occasions, including in the Rann of Kutch, Uttarakhand, Kerala and the national capital while attending public events as the vice president.
On July 21, 2025, Dhankhar surprised the nation by surprised resignation as the vice president citing health grounds.

The abrupt resignation had triggered speculation in the political arena. Following the resignation, Dhankhar kept himself away from political life and made limited public appearances.
Dhankhar or his family have not given any official statement or any health update.
Dhankhar's political career
Before his term as VP, Dhankhar was the Governor of West Bengal. He served the office from July 30, 2019, to July 18, 2022.
His political career started with a stint as Lok Sabha MP from Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu from 1989 to 1991. During his tenure, he served as the Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs.
Between 19923 and 1998, he was a member of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly from the Kishangarh seat. In 2003, he joined the BJP.
After he resigned from the Veep office, the BJP leader and the then Maharashtra Governor, CP Radhakrishnan, succeeded him after defeating the Opposition candidate, retired Judge B Sudershan Reddy.
