Special webinars were organised in Lucknow and Aligarh to protect senior citizens from cyber fraud. In these sessions, senior citizens were trained in digital safety. The online programme was conducted by Jagran New Media and Vishvas News in collaboration with Google’s prestigious ‘Digikavach’ initiative under the series "Digital Safety for Senior Citizens: Sach Ke Saathi."
The objective of the webinar was to make senior citizens aware of online fraud and scams and educate them about preventive measures. The Lucknow webinar was supported by Care the Peace Human Foundation, while the Aligarh event received support from the Zuberi Welfare Society.
During the webinar organised for senior citizens in Lucknow, Devika Mehta, Deputy Editor at Vishvas News, explained in detail how online frauds take place. She highlighted that criminals and online scammers often target senior citizens, and such cases are steadily increasing. She said that during festivals, cybercriminals frequently send phishing links with attractive offers. The safest way to avoid falling for such attempts is not to click on unfamiliar links.
Explaining the importance of Google Password Manager in the webinar, Devika Mehta demonstrated how to create strong passwords using the tool. She said that Google Passkeys are an easy and secure alternative to traditional passwords. With passkeys, users can log in using fingerprint, face scan or screen lock, which helps protect online accounts more effectively.
Participants were informed about the rising cases of cybercrime and fraud, along with detailed guidance on Google's 'Digikavach' programme and its objectives. They were made aware of different types of online scams and frauds, as well as methods to safeguard themselves.
Munira Siddiqui from Care the Peace Human Foundation appreciated the programme, stating that such training is extremely important for senior citizens so they can protect themselves from cyber fraud.
Digital Safety Training Conducted in Aligarh as Well
Vishvas News Deputy Editor Devika Mehta also guided senior citizens in Aligarh by sharing digital safety tips and detailed methods to stay safe online. She emphasised that staying alert and aware is the only way to avoid cyber fraud.
Senior Sub-Editor Jyoti Kumari explained how online fraud is being carried out with the help of AI. She said that many videos of celebrities go viral these days, encouraging people to invest money. These are often AI-generated deepfake videos created by cybercriminals to trap users.
Farhan Zuberi, Director of the Zuberi Welfare Society in Aligarh, and the organisation's patron, Professor Nadeem Ahmed, said that elderly people are often easy targets for cyber fraudsters. They stressed that staying informed and alert is the best way for senior citizens to protect themselves from any type of fraud.
