Google, in collaboration with Dainik Jagran and Vishvas News, organised a webinar for the senior citizens of Moradabad on Wednesday under its prestigious 'DigiKavach' program. The event was held as part of the 'Digital Security for Senior Citizens: Sach Ke Sathi' campaign. Attendees learned about ways to avoid online fraud through examples and videos.

Key Takeaways from the Program

In the program, trainers from Vishvas News emphasised the importance of the campaign, stating that scammers employ various methods to trap people. For instance, they use "digital arrests" by instilling fear about a relative being in an accident or involved in a crime. They clarified that no such provision exists; no government agency carries out digital arrests in this manner. By remaining vigilant, these scammers can be challenged.

Tips on Digital Security

Senior Editor Urvashi Kapoor of Vishvas News provided participants with digital security tips and informed them about online fraud enabled by AI (Artificial Intelligence). She explained that fraudsters use AI tools to change a person's voice or face to create deepfake videos, which are then used to incite people to invest money on various platforms. Kapoor advised that if someone asks you to quickly invest or transfer money, you should stop and double-check the request.

Associate Editor Abhishek Parashar of Vishvas News elaborated that there are several types of online scams. For example, fraudsters often cast a net of attractive offers during festivals or special occasions to lure people. Alternatively, they create fake websites for hotels or guesthouses at tourist destinations to cheat people. To avoid these, a thorough investigation of any offer is essential.

He advised that if you do become a victim of fraud, immediately call 1930 and file a complaint with evidence on Cyber Crime's official website: cybercrime.gov.in.

Program Collaborators

The event, which was held in collaboration with the NGO Parivartan The Change, saw its founder, Kapil Kumar, praise the campaign, stating that such programs will increase awareness among people. He also promised to share the information received from this program with others.
