Jammu Kashmir Assembly Election 2024 Live Updates: The members of the Valmiki community are voting for the first time. In the third phase of the ongoing Assembly polls, voting is underway on Tuesday across 40 seats. Expressing their joy at this historic moment, the community members said they had been granted voting rights after waiting for decades.

Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday asked the people of Jammu and Kashmir to exercise their rights to vote. "As voting for the third phase of the Jammu and Kashmir elections commences, I urge the people in these 40 Assembly seats to exercise their Democratic rights in large numbers. This is the final chance to teach a lesson to those who snatched statehood from the people of Jammu and Kashmir," the Congress Chief wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

J-K Assembly Election Phase 3: BJP candidate from  Nagrota Assembly seat, Devender Singh Rana casted his vote on Tuesday, in the third phase of the assembly election. Speaking to ANI, he exuded confidence in PM Modi's leadership and said, "It is a festival of democracy and people are enthusiastic and people are participating in it with so much enthusiasm and passion. The people of Jammu and Kashmir have faith in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and want to include themselves in this journey of Viksit Bharat...For the first time in Jammu and Kashmir, a full majority government of BJP will be formed."

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Bahu assembly constituency, Vikram Randhawa, has offered prayers at the Bawe Wali Mata Mahakali Mandir ahead of the elections today. Congress' Taranjit Singh Tony and PDP's Varinder Singh are his main opponents.

"I prayed that Mata Rani strengthens the nationalist powers. These elections will take Jammu and Kashmir in a new direction. J&K has decided to take the best decision this time," Randhawa told ANI.

This election is notable as the first in a decade and the first since the revocation of Article 370 in August 2019. The three-phase election involves a multi-party contest for the 90 seats across the former state. The National Conference (NC) and the Congress have formed an alliance for these elections, while the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are among the other major contenders.

There is a lot of enthusiasm among the voters about the assembly elections being held after 10 years in Jammu and Kashmir. Voting started at 7:00 am but voters started reaching the polling stations from 6:30 am itself. Voters standing in queue outside the pink polling station set up at Udhampur ADC office and waiting to cast their vote.

Democratic Progressive Azad Party Chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad appealed people to "come out and vote". He also said that the political party that comes to power should resolve the issues of the union territory.

"I will not speak against or in favour of any party. Voters will decide whether (majority) will be given to a single party or not," he added.

J-K Assembly Election Phase 3 LIVE: Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasised that the Union Territory requires a government capable of making decisive actions for the security, peace, and stability of the region.

"Jammu and Kashmir needs a visionary government that can also make strong decisions for the security, peace, and stability of the region," Shah stated in a post on X.

"Today, as the public casts their votes in the final phase, let them elect a government through their votes that will keep Jammu and Kashmir free from terrorism, separatism, nepotism, and corruption and is resolute in protecting the rights of every community. Vote for a historic change towards tourism, education, employment, and holistic development in Jammu and Kashmir," he added.

J-K Assembly Election Phase 3 LIVE: As voting began for the final phase of polls in Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday appealed people to come forward and cast their votes.

"Today is the third and last round of voting in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. I request all voters to come forward and cast their votes to make the festival of democracy a success. I am confident that apart from the young friends who are going to vote for the first time, women power will also participate in the voting in large numbers," said the Prime minister in a tweet on X.
