The Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested and booked two men for impersonating pony service providers using fake documents on the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi route in Reasi district, the officials said. The development comes amid the hightened security across the UT after the Pahalgam terrorist attack in which 26 people were killed.

While routing patrolling near Shri Geeta Mata Mandir, the police team intercepted a man identified as Puran Singh. Upon verification, his real identity was unveiled. The police found out his name to be Manir Hussain who was using someone else's authorised service card to operate illegally.

The FIR was registered against him under relevant sections at the Katra Police Station. Meanwhile, in another similar case near Ban Ganga on the Vaishno Devi route, police arrested Sahil Khan, who belonged to Jammu's Kotli, for allegedly operating a pony service without any valid license.

He admitted to the police that he had no authorisation and therefore, a case was registered against him.

The authorities have said that the surveillance and verification drives would continue to stop unauthorised activities on the shrine route. Moreover, the police have requested all service providers to carry valid documents with them, and the people have also been urged to report suspicious behaviour.

On April 22, the terrorists of Pakistan-backed 'The Resistance Front', an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba, opened indiscriminate firing on tourists in Pahalgam's Baisaran valley. The dastardly attack claimed 26 innocent lives while several others were injured.

The terrorist attack has further taken the bilateral relations between the neighbouring countries to an all-time low. India announced the holding Indus Water Treaty (IWT) in abeyance and suspended Visas to Pakistani nationals with immediate effect. In response to it, Pakistan banned all trade with India and held the 1972 Shimla Agreement in abeyance.
