Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced on Friday that seven tourist destinations, which had been closed as a precaution following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, will reopen starting Monday, September 29.

The reopening decision was made after a comprehensive security assessment during the Unified Headquarters (UHQ) meeting held earlier in the day at Raj Bhawan, Srinagar.

In a post on X ( formerly twitter ), the Lieutenant Governor said, “After a thorough security review and discussion in today’s UHQ Meeting, I’ve ordered reopening of more tourist spots in Kashmir and Jammu Divisions, which were temporarily closed as precautionary measures."

In the Kashmir Division, the tourist sites set to reopen include Aru Valley, Rafting Point Yanner, Akkad Park, Padshahi Park, and Kaman Post. In the Jammu Division, five locations will welcome visitors again: Dagan Top, Ramban, Dhaggar in Kathua, Shiv Cave in Salal, and Reasi.

The UHQ meeting was attended by senior military and police leaders, including Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, as well as commanders of various army corps. Officials from the Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), intelligence agencies, and the civil administration also participated.

During the meeting, Sinha praised the security forces, J&K Police, and intelligence agencies for their recent successful anti-terror operations across the Union Territory.

“War against terrorism is not over yet. Kinetic and non-Kinetic operations must continue. We must maintain the momentum and take stringent action against terrorism and its entire ecosystem," he said, emphasising the need for a ‘Whole of Government Approach’ to tackle radicalisation and the drug menace.
