A pair of Royal Bengal tigers have been brought to Jammu and Kashmir’s Jambu Zoo from Tamil Nadu’s Arignar Anna Zoological Park as part of an animal exchange programme on Friday, officials said. A pair of Asiatic lions, a male and a female, had also been brought to the zoo from Gujarat on November 8. 

The Royal Bengal tigers,  a male and a female, have been put in quarantine for a week before they will be integrated into the zoo, Wildlife Warden Amit Sharma said as reported by news agency PTI. The official added that the Royal Bengal tigers have been brought to Jammu in exchange for a pair of Himalayan Black Bears with Arignar Anna Zoological Park, which is located in Chennai. 

"Earlier, we brought Asiatic lions, which will be under quarantine for the next three days. Today, there was a new addition of the Royal Bengal tigers," Sharma said as quoted by news agency PTI.

The zoo officials said that both Asiatic tigers and Royal Bengal tigers will be kept under quarantine in room heater conditions. He stated that under the Central Zoo Authority norms, the tigers will be integrated into the zoo after their quarantine ends on November 25 and they will be kept in a naturalised enclosure which will have a space of more than 4,500 square metres.
