Jammu Attacks: Overview

The high-level meeting came a day after a second encounter took place in Doda district in Jammu division within 24 hours. The gunfight erupted in the Gandoh area of the district during the evening hours of Wednesday. A policeman sustained injuries in the encounter, which took place at Kota top in Gandoh, officials said. It was the fourth terror-related incident in Jammu since Sunday (June 9), when terrorists attacked a bus in Reasi, causing it to plunge into a gorge.

Later, on Tuesday evening, around the same time as security forces and terrorists engaged in a gunfight in Doda's Chattergala area, another encounter erupted in the Hira Nagar area of neighbouring Kathua district. The encounter in Kathua lasted till Wednesday afternoon, culminating with casualties on both sides.

While a CRPF trooper lost his life in the anti-terror operation in Kathua, two terrorists were neutralised by the security forces. The encounter and a subsequent search operation in Kathua followed an attack by terrorists on civilians in Saida Sukhal village in the border area of Hira Nagar.

Doda Encounters: Terrorists' Sketches Released

Following the encounter in Doda on Wednesday, the Jammu and Kashmir police released sketches of four terrorists believed to be roaming in the upper reaches of Bhaderwah, Thathri, and Gandoh in the district and also announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh on each terrorist for providing any information about them.

The encounter in Doda prior to the one in the district's Gandoh area had left five Army personnel and a special police officer (SPO) injured. According to the police, a search operation was initiated following the exchange of fire in order to neutralise a group suspected to be comprising three to four terrorists hiding in Chattergala, where the encounter took place on Tuesday.
