A man was charred to death on Friday night after jumping onto the engine of the Goa Express train in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi railway station. The individual allegedly jumped from the tin shed of Platform 1 as the train, en route from Hazrat Nizamuddin to Vasco da Gama, arrived around 10 pm. The man came into contact with the overhead high-tension electrical wire, causing a fire that led to his death.
The incident caused panic among passengers and halted the train for 45 minutes. Railway Police (GRP) retrieved the body after the overhead electrical line was deactivated and sent it for post-mortem examination.
GRP in-charge inspector Yogendra Singh confirmed that the deceased could not be identified. Railway Police Circle Officer Naeem Mansuri noted the victim appeared to be in his early 40s and a probe is underway to identify his whereabouts.

In a separate incident earlier this year, a jobless man attempted suicide in Gwalior by jumping in front of the Jhansi-Etawah Express. The train’s loco pilot applied emergency brakes, saving his life, though both his toes were amputated due to injuries.

The man, identified as Rakesh, a resident of Bhind, reportedly jumped onto the tracks in frustration over unemployment. After the accident, RPF, GRP and porters rescued him, but the absence of a functioning ambulance left him writhing on the platform for 15 minutes before receiving medical care.
