Jharkhand Assembly Election 2024 LIVE Voting Updates: 46.25 % Turnout Recorded So Far; CM Hemant Soren Casts His Vote

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that infiltration remains the biggest election issue in Jharkhand. Addressing a poll rally in Deoghar district's Sarath, Modi claimed that the tribal population in Santhal has been reduced to half and urged the people of Jharkhand to protect their tribal families.

As polling for the first phase of Jharkhand Assembly elections and on the Wayanad parliamentary seat in Kerala was underway, senior Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit on Wednesday asserted that his party would taste victory in the Assembly polls and also on the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat.

BJP candidate Geeta Koda said her priority would be to open the mines to generate employment in the region. BJP’s Geeta Koda, the wife of former Chief Minister Madhu Koda, faces Congress leader Sona Ram Sinku in Jagannathpur constituency.

Former Union Minister and BJP leader Arjun Munda, along with his wife, Meera Munda, who is a BJP candidate from Potka Assembly constituency, cast their vote in the first phase of the Jharkhand assembly election on Wednesday.

BJP candidate Champai Soren said the main issues in the election are “Bangladeshi infiltration, unemployment and irrigation”. “We have to save the land of Sidho-Kanho and Santhal from Bangladeshi infiltrators...There is no doubt that BJP will form the govt in Jharkhand,” Soren told news agency ANI.

Voters in the Noamundi block have boycotted the elections in protest against the relocation of the Tadiya polling booth, center number 85. Angry voters gathered outside the new polling booth and staged protests, raising slogans. Local residents claimed that the Tadiya Upper Primary School booth center was shifted due to security concerns in the Naxal-affected area, and was replaced by the Dudhbilaa Upper Primary School polling booth.

The Governor of Odisha, Raghubar Das, cast his vote along with his daughter-in-law, Purnima Das, the BJP candidate from Jamshedpur East Assembly seat, his wife, and his son, Lalit Das. ,

A voter turnout of 13.04 per cent was recorded till 9 am in the first phase of the Jharkhand Assembly Elections, as per the Election Commission of India.

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) candidate Mahua Maji appealed to voters to vote in large numbers. Speaking to ANI, Maji said, “I appeal to everyone to vote for me. I want there should be development. Ranchi does not look like a capital and I want to transform it into one...I have experience in different sectors”.

JMM spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya expressed confidence in victory before voting in the phase one assembly election. “We will get full blessings and there will be no shortage of love and support. We receive votes,” he said.

The 43 assembly constituencies in Jharkhand going to polls in the first phase are: Chatra, Gumla (ST), Bishunpur (ST), Lohardaga (ST), Manika (ST), Latehar (SC), Panki, Daltonganj, Bishrampur, Chhatarpur (SC), Hussainabad, Garhwa, Bhawanathpur, Koderma, Barkatha, Barhi, Mandu, Hazaribagh, Ramgarh, Dumri (ST), Gomia, Bermo, Nawadih, Bagodar, Jamua (SC), Gandey, Giridih, Dhanwar, Kodarma, Barkagaon, Simaria (SC), Ichagarh, Silli, Khijri (ST), Tamar (ST), Torpa (ST), Khunti (ST), Sisai (ST), Gumla (ST), Bishunpur (ST), Simdega (ST), Kolebira (ST), and Chaibasa (ST).

First phase of voting across 43 of 81 Seats has begun in Jharkhand. Voting in the first phase is being held from 7 am to 5 pm. However, in 950 booths, the voting time will end at 4 pm. ,
