Jharkhand Municipal Election 2026 Live Updates: Voting for municipal elections began in Jharkhand on Monday amid tight security arrangements at polling booths. A total of 4,333,574 voters in 48 municipal bodies will elect their municipal governments. This includes the election of nine municipal corporation mayors, 20 municipal councils, and 19 nagar panchayat presidents. Voting will also take place for 1,042 ward councilors. Voting began at all 4,304 booths across the municipal bodies at 7 am and will continue till 5 pm.
A total of 4,333,574 voters will exercise their franchise in this election. These include 2,207,203 men, 2,126,227 women, and 144 third-gender voters. Voters will decide the fate of 562 candidates contesting for mayor and president, and 5,562 ward councilors. In this way, the fate of a total of 6,124 candidates will be sealed in the ballot box.
In 45 wards across the state, there will be no councilor elections. Voters will only vote for the mayor or chairman. Elections were to be held for a total of 1,087 ward councilor seats, but 41 wards saw unopposed elections.

Jharkhand Municipal Election Voting: Voting Boycott In 2 Wards Of Koderma
The impact of the announcement of election boycott in two wards of Koderma Nagar Panchayat Domchanch was clearly visible on the day of voting. Till 10 am, only seven votes were cast in ward number 11, whereas in ward number 5 not a single voter reached the polling booth. Most of the votes cast in ward 11 are said to be of booth level officers and government employees. No candidate had filed nomination for the post of ward councilor from these two wards. As such, voting is being held only for the post of president. Due to the absence of a candidate for the post of councilor, the lack of enthusiasm among the voters was clearly visible and there was silence at the polling booths.

Jharkhand Nikay Chunav 2026 Live Update: Councilor's Supporters Create Ruckus In Dhanbad, Allege Bringing In Outside Voters
Elections are underway peacefully in the Dhanbad Municipal Corporation. However, a ruckus broke out at booths 6, 110, 111, and 112 in Ward No. 27. A clash broke out between supporters of ward councilor candidates Pushpa Devi and Pinky Urmila Devi, jagran.com reported. Police arrived upon receiving information about the clash and disturbance and removed supporters from both sides. Pushpa Devi's husband, Sanjay Kumar Singh, said that candidate Pinky Devi is also a BLO and is working to woo voters. His friend, Ramesh Kumar Singh, was dragged out by Pramod Kumar Yadav's collar. Candidate Pinky Devi is a relative of Pramod Kumar Yadav. Sanjay Kumar Singh claims that they were outside the street and were forcibly attacked. Pramod Kumar Yadav countered that Sanjay Kumar Singh was bringing in infiltrators from Bihar to conduct the voting, which is why he was stopped.
