Naxalites allegedly murdered a man and his mother in Jharkhand's Chatra district on Sunday. The Naxalites reportedly kidnapped the man and slit her throat in the Dhamdhamia forest, around three kilometres from his home. The accused, identified as Bhuneshwar Sahu alias Bisun Saw, was a resident of Lembu village in the district.
According to a jagran.com report, the man had gone to visit his parents at their Pahi house in Padampur early on Sunday morning. Upon arrival, armed Naxals attacked the house and took him captive. During the assault, they tied his mother, Shitali Devi, to a tree before dragging Sahu to the nearby forest. There, they murdered him, leaving his body with the torso severed.
Following the incident, the police launched an immediate search operation. The body of Bishun Saw was later found in the Dhamdhamia forest, confirming the brutal nature of the crime. An investigation is underway into the accident and further details are awaited.
Meanwhile, Karnataka's last Maoist, Lakshmi, surrendered on Sunday in Udupi, in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Vidya Kumari and SP Arun K. Lakshmi, who had been on the run in Andhra Pradesh, faced three cases dating back to 2007-2008, involving gunfights with the police, attacks and distributing Maoist literature.
The woman hails from Thombattu in Machattu village, Kundapura taluk. Her husband, Salim, a former Maoist, surrendered in 2020. Lakshmi severed ties with her family 15 years ago and went underground, actively supporting the Maoist cause in Chikmagalur and Udupi districts.

Following Kotahanda Ravindra's surrender on Saturday, the Chief Minister's office declared Karnataka a Maoist-free state. CM Siddaramaiah announced a Chief Minister's Medal for 22 police officers and personnel for their role in achieving this milestone.
