Jharkhand News: In a major decision, the Jharkhand government has agreed to provide free electricity up to 200 units every month to the consumers of private electricity suppliers. Apart from this, the state government has also decided to fix a maximum fee of seven thousand rupees for drinking water connection and has made the State Employees Insurance Scheme optional. The decision was taken in a meeting held in the assembly, where the officials stated that the decision is likely to benefit thousands of residents.
The decision of the state government is likely to directly benefit the consumers of districts like Jamshedpur, Bokaro, and Dhanbad, who were receiving electricity supply from private companies and were deprived of the free electricity scheme of the government. The officials stated that apart from Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited, consumers of Tata Steel UISL, Bokaro's SAIL, and Dhanbad's BCCL will also be included in this scheme.
They further stated that an official recommendation will be prepared by the departmental committee and sent to the state cabinet to get the approval. Earlier during the budget session, Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Rai had prominently raised this issue in the assembly: that the residents of Jamshedpur have to pay arbitrary charges to get drinking water connections. He also stated that the consumers of Tata Steel UISL are not even getting the benefit of the free electricity scheme of the state government.
Apart from this, the government has also given a big indication regarding the State Employees Insurance Scheme. Earlier last month, a large number of employees had expressed dissatisfaction over the currently implemented State Insurance Scheme and had described it as more complicated and expensive than before. The government has now constituted a high-level committee to review the provisions of the insurance scheme.
