National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday evening to stake claim and fix a date for the oath ceremony for forming the government in Jammu and Kashmir.

After the meeting, Abdullah stated, "I met with the LG and submitted letters of support from the Congress, CPM, AAP, and independent members. I requested that he set a date for the swearing-in ceremony so that the government can begin its work."

Omar Abdullah stated that the Lieutenant Governor will first send the support documents to Rashtrapati Bhawan and then to the Home Ministry, a process expected to take 2-3 days. If completed before Tuesday, the swearing-in ceremony will be held on Wednesday. Abdullah also assured that Jammu will not be neglected under the new government.

The upcoming government will be the first elected administration in Jammu and Kashmir since 2018, following the imposition of governor's rule after the BJP withdrew support from then-Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. It will also be the first elected government since the abrogation of Article 370.

The National Conference (NC) dominated the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, becoming the largest party with 42 seats. The party holds a clear majority in the 95-member Assembly. Its alliance partners, the Congress and CPM, secured six and one seat respectively, while four independent members have also pledged their support to the NC.
