'Covered In Blood': Kargil War Veteran Attacked By Gurugram Parking Staff, Alleges No Cooperation From Police

A Kargil War veteran was seriously injured after being attacked with an iron rod by a parking attendant at Magnum Global Park in Haryana’s Gurugram. The man suffered a serious head injury and a broken arm. The victim, Group Captain Amit Kumar Gupta (retired), has alleged in a police complaint that the attendant also threatened to kill him.

He also accused the police of failing to help him and the hospital of preparing a false report. Gupta was part of the Indian Air Force's 'Operation Safed Sagar' team in 1999. On Thursday night, Gupta along with his family had gone to dinner with his family at Magnum Global Park’s Gonzo Restaurant.

In his complaint, Gupta stated that he dropped his family off near the restaurant around 8 pm. and began looking for a place to park. However, parking staff kept directing him to various locations, including the valet parking lot, basement parking, and multi-level parking, before finally refusing to let him park.

Meanwhile, when he tried to reverse his car, a parking attendant attacked the windshield with the intention of breaking it. Speaking to NDTV, he said, "When I got out of the car and protested, the attendant brought an iron rod and attacked me twice, once on my hand and then on my head. I was covered in blood,”

Gupta said that neither the security personnel nor other parking staff present at the scene tried to save him. He even called the police helpline, but no police officer arrived for 30 minutes. Finally, a chef intervened, saving his life.

With serious injuries to his head and elbow, he was taken by ambulance to Medanta Hospital, where he underwent surgery to reattach his elbow bone using plates. He said the attack was sudden and unprovoked. He did not even have a chance to defend himself.

He further alleged that the hospital submitted a false MLC (medico-legal case) report, which made no mention of bleeding or an elbow injury. As per NDTV, he said, "I'm not getting any cooperation from the police either."

In his complaint to the police, Gupta demanded strict action against the accused, saying an FIR should be filed against him under sections of attempt to murder and causing grievous hurt.

A high-altitude air operation, Operation Safed Sagar was carried out by the Indian Air Force to drive out Pakistani intruders who had captured Indian positions in the Kargil region.
