A 42-year-old man from Karnataka’s Udupi district allegedly killed her 27-year-old wife on Thursday after a quarrel over her watching Instagram reels. The incident took place under the jurisdiction of the Shankaranarayana police and has once again highlighted the troubling intersection of digital addiction and domestic conflict, according to the HT report.
According to the report, the accused, 42-year-old Ganesh Poojary, worked as a painter and resided in Hosamatha, Hiliyana village, in Brahmavara taluk. His wife, Rekha, was employed as an attendant at a fuel station in Shankaranarayana. Investigations revealed that the couple often argued over Rekha’s habit of watching reels on her mobile phone, a conflict serious enough to have previously involved police intervention. Authorities had earlier taken an undertaking from the couple after being alerted to their ongoing domestic disputes.
On the night of the incident, when Poojary returned home late at night after work, he lost his temper after finding his wife, Rekha, once again watching reels. The argument escalated, and in anger he allegedly attacked her with a machete, fatally striking her on the neck.
Police arrested Poojary shortly after the incident and have filed a murder charge against him.
In a separate incident, A man allegedly killed his pregnant wife at their home in Badagundi village, Karnataka, before taking his own life, officials said on Friday. The incident came to light earlier today when neighbors, concerned by the unusual silence and locked doors, alerted local authorities.
The man, identified as Thimmappa Mulya, is suspected of strangling his wife, Jayanti.
Police believe the tragedy may have been triggered by a domestic dispute, though a thorough investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause.
