Karur Stampede Case: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and former actor Vijay will appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Delhi on Monday for probe into the Karur stampede. Vijay is currently on his way to the national capital and is being accompanied by his manager Jagdish.

The CBI probe pertains to the stampede that occurred on September 27, 2025 in Velusamipuram, Karur, during a public outreach programme addressed by Vijay. At least 41 people died while over 100 others were injured in the incident. Earlier, the CBI had questioned senior TVK leaders, including Bussy Anand, Adhav Arjuna and CTR Nirmal Kumar, for nearly 17 hours in Delhi as part of the investigation.

CBI Inquiry Into Karur Stampede

-The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over charge of the case following the directions from the Supreme Court.

-A 15-member team led by ASP Mahesh Kumar, along with SP Praveen Kumar, DSP Ramakrishnan and Inspector Manoharan, conducted a detailed inspection in Karur where the stampede occurred.

-During the inspection, the team employed advanced 3D digital survey technology to evaluate road width, crowd capacity, bus stands and adjoining streets.

-The case was initially registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by Karur Town Inspector Manivannan against TVK general secretary Bussy Anand, joint secretary Nirmal Kumar, western district secretary Mathiyazhagan and others.

-The Tamil Nadu government filed a counter-affidavit before the apex court on December 2 seeking cancellation of the CBI probe.

-It also requested the SC to transfer the jurisdiction of the investigation back to the SIT constituted by the Madras High Court earlier.
The state government also requested the lifting of the stay on the inquiry being conducted by the one-member commission headed by retired Justice Aruna Jagadeesan, to allow the commission’s probe into the Karur incident to resume.
