Two terrorists who opened fire on civilians in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua on Tuesday evening went door-to-door, asking for water from villagers. The villagers became suspicious and slammed the doors on their faces in response, said ADGP Jammu.

While one terrorist was killed in the gunfight that broke out between security forces and terrorists in village Saida Sukhal near Koota mode PS Hira Nagar Kathua, According to Anand Jain, Additional Director General of Police, Jammu Zone, the two terrorists were first spotted in the Saida Sukhal village of Hira Nagar in the late evening.

"Two terrorists (who appeared to have freshly infiltrated) surfaced in village Saida Sukhal near Koota morh of Police Station Hira Nagar in the late evening of 11 June. They asked for water from a few houses to which villagers grew suspicious and slammed the doors on them and a few raised hue and cry," wrote Anand in a post on X.

"SHO Hiranagar and SDPO rushed to the spot, engaged the terrorists and one terrorist got killed while lobbing a grenade at the police party. A search of the other terrorist is on. Police with the help of CRPF has cordoned the area. A search party is clearing the houses one by one. So far one family of husband and wife has been evacuated to hospital. While the wife is unhurt, the husband Omkar Nath S/o Dina Nath is injured in the arm and appears to be stable," he added.

Meanwhile, in the latest update, a policeman was injured on Wednesday evening after terrorists opened fire on a search party in a village in the Gandoh area of Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district, officials said, as quoted by PTI. At 7:41 p.m., gunfire was heard coming from Bhalesa's Kota top area, said the official.

The terrorist attack comes just two days after terrorists opened fire in Reasi and attacked a bus coming from Shiv Khori shrine to Katra, when it reached the Pouni area of Reasi district, bordering Rajouri district. At least 10 people were killed and over 40 injured in the incident.

Earlier on Tuesday, a CRPF jawan was killed, and six security personnel were left injured in two separate overnight encounters in the Kathua and Doda districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Jammu and Kashmir has recently witnessed a sudden spike in terror attack cases. Notably, today's encounter marks the fourth such incident within a week.
