As many as six bodies have been recovered so far since the tragic disaster struck Kedarnath Valley in Uttarakhand. Over 23 persons were reported missing at Sonprayag police station after the calamity that hit the valley 18 days ago. While six bodies have been recovered, 17 people are still missing, which include pilgrims as well as some locals. A comprehensive search operation is underway along the Gaurikund-Kedarnath pedestrian route to locate them.

On the night of July 31, the Kedarnath pedestrian route was destroyed in several places due to a cloudburst and landslide. On that day, around 15,000 pilgrims were present at various stops along the route and at the Kedarnath shrine, with some going missing.

Fearing that they may be trapped under the debris, teams from the NDRF, SDRF, and DDRF are conducting search operations at various places, including the landslide-affected area of Lincholi.

So far, six bodies have been recovered from the debris in Lincholi. In addition, one body was found in a river near Guptkashi. On Thursday, three bodies were found under debris and stones in Lincholi.

The deceased were identified as Sumit Shukla (21) and Chirag Gupta (20) from Archana Enclave, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, and Nikhil Singh (20) from New Mandloi, Mayur Vihar, Delhi. One of their companions, Krishna Patel alias Pintu, a resident of Jaipalpur, Ghaziabad, is still missing.

Dr Manish Kumar from the Rudraprayag District Hospital stated that all three died due to suffocation caused by soil entering their airways. After conducting the post-mortem at the district hospital, their bodies were handed over to their families.
