A Kendriya Vidyalaya teacher has been suspended for her derogatory comments on Bihar and the people of the state. Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) suspended the primary school teacher posted in Jehanabad after a video of her stating people in Bihar have "no civic sense" went viral.
The teacher, originally from West Bengal, was suspended with immediate effect on February 25 after a complaint by Lok Janshakti Party MP Shambhavi Choudhary. Deepali has been transferred to Kendriya Vidyalaya, Mashrak, Chhapra for the duration of her suspension.
The 24-year-old expressing discontent over her inaugural posting in Bihar stated that India would have been a developed country if Bihar was not a part of it. In the viral video, she noted that although people may not like certain places, she was okay with getting posted in any part of India, except Bihar.
“I will always remember my first posting … Kendriya Vidyalaya has many regions, Though people don’t like Kolkata region, I was even ready for that. I am ready to go places like Kolkata, Goa, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, or even Ladakh where no one wants to go, but no…," the suspended teacher said in the viral video.
Deepali’s remark on the civic sense of Bihar people ignited widespread criticism. She said, “I am staying here and the ground reality is people in Bihar have no civic sense…"
The KVS regional office in Patna cleared its stance on the issue in a statement, “As per provisions of rule 10 of the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965, Deepali, the primary teacher on probation, posted at KVS (Jehanabad), is suspended with immediate effect. She will report to KVS, Mashrakh, in Saran district."
The Cyber Police have questioned the teacher but no FIR has been filed yet. As per media reports, the video is a month old.
