Kerala News: A man with nine prior cases against him was arrested after he allegedly deceived police personnel in Kerala's Hosdurg by posing as a judge, news agency IANS reported on Tuesday. The alleged deception involved the accused, identified as 39-year-old Shamnad Shoukat, making a police team drive to a hotel and authorities providing him with a security personnel.
On Monday night, the police reportedly received a call informing them that a judge's vehicle had developed a snag and that he needed help to reach a certain hotel. Upon receiving information, a team of Kerala Police reached the spot and drove the accused, who was posing as a judge of the Pathanamthitta court, to his destination.
Later he allegedly told the police personnel that there was a threat to his life due to the nature of his job, and he was subsequently provided with a security cover too. According to the IANS report, the accused later allegedly demanded that he be driven to the nearby railway station as he had a train to catch.
Feeling suspicious of his behavior, the police finally asked him for his identity card and when he declined, he was taken to the Hosdurg police station, as per IANS. Reportedly, he confessed to the alleged deception upon being interrogated by the police. Shoukat revealed that he hailed from Thiruvananthapuram.
According to his statement, Shoukat was on a bus to Kasargod and had a quarrel, following which he was told to disembark. It was then that the idea came to his mind and he asked a local friend to inform the police that a 'judge' was waiting by the road, the IANS report said.
A police official cited by IANS said that both Shoukat and his friend have been arrested and they will be produced in court on Wednesday. "He has admitted that he has nine cases registered in his home district. We are continuing our probe and will do things according to the law," the police officer stated.
