Kerala Weather News: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to extremely heavy rain in Kerala till July 20, especially in the northern districts. The weather department issued a red alert on Tuesday for Kannur and Kozhikode.
When the amount of rainfall exceeds 204.4 mm in a 24-hour period, a red warning is issued.
The district administrations have declared a holiday on Wednesday for all educational institutions, including professional colleges, tuition centers, and anganwadis. The areas include:
- Kozhikode
- Palakkad
- Wayanad
- Thrissur
- Idukki
- Alappuzha
- Kannur
- Kottayam
However, public and university examinations will proceed as scheduled.

Orange Alert In THESE Districts
The met department has issued an 'orange alert' for Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Wayanad, Kasaragod, Kozhikode, Kannur from July 16 to July 19.
Yellow Alert Issued For THESE Districts
July 16: Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam
July 17: Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad.
July 18: Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Wayanad
July 19: Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad
July 20: Kozhikode, Kannur, Kasaragod
Extremely high rainfall, ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in a 24-hour period, is indicated by an orange alert. A yellow signal indicates that there will be 64.5 to 115.5 mm of heavy rainfall in a 24-hour period.
