Kerala Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that several regions of Kerala are likely to witness heavy rainfall for the next five days. The weather department stated that the presence of a cyclonic circulation over the Kanyakumari Sea and the Indian Ocean will also lead to thunderstorms and lightning in the coastal regions. The continuous rainfall is likely to lead to waterlogging in the cities and flood-like situations in the lower regions, leading to inconveniences. The weather department has advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings to avoid any inconveniences.
While providing details, the IMD stated that several districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Idukki, are set to witness heavy rainfall on Sunday. Apart from this, a yellow alert has also been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Palakkad, and Malappuram districts on Monday. The weather department also stated that most of these districts are also set to witness rainfall at least till November 28.
The IMD stated that there is a possibility of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain in the upcoming two to three days. It emphasised that fishing is not allowed along the Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts till Monday. The continuous rainfall is likely to lead to issues like waterlogging and power outages in the key cities, leading to inconveniences. While there is no information on the closure of schools due to the poor weather, the district administration have been asked to stay alert.
The IMD has also advised the fishermen of the Karnataka coastal regions to maintain a distance from the water bodies and limit their financial activities for the next few days. Apart from Kerala, several other states, including Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Telangana, are also set to witness moderate to heavy rainfall for the next few days.
