Kolkata Nabanna Abhijan Rally Live Updates: Thousands of protesters, mainly students from across West Bengal, on Tuesday began the 'Nabanna Abhijan' demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the arrest of those responsible for the rape-murder of a doctor in RG Kar hospital. Protesters gathered at the Santragachi area in Howrah, from where they are marching towards the state secretariat. However, the protesters met with the wrath of security personnel with the police baton charging the protesters and using tear gas shells to disperse the swelling crowd from Howrah Bridge. The Nabanna Abhijan began from College Square in Kolkata, with the protestors reaching the barricades put up at the Howrah bridge to stop the protesters from marching towards the state secretariat. The rally originating from College Square will head towards Nabanna via Howrah Bridge, while the procession from Santragachi will proceed towards the state secretariat via Sibpur. The protesters held the CM responsible for failing to ensure the safety and security of women, which they argued led to the RG Kar tragedy that sparked nationwide outrage. "We will reach Nabanna no matter what. We must get to the state secretariat to demand the resignation of the Chief Minister, whose administration has been trying to shield the perpetrators of this heinous crime and suppress the incident. We want to hear from her," a protester said as quoted by PTI.

Minimal action has been taken by the police to disperse the mob...Rape and murder is a big social crime but the situation is the same across the country though no Congress or BJP leader has resigned anywhere... They (BJP) have called for a Bharat Bandh tomorrow which will be a complete flop..."
