State Bureau, Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched coordinated raids early Saturday morning on multiple premises linked to Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and Kamarhati MLA Madan Mitra. As part of the ongoing investigation into the municipal recruitment scam, ED teams simultaneously carried out searches at around seven locations in and around Kolkata.
With heavy deployment of central security forces, officials are examining documents at Mitra’s residences in Bhawanipur and Kalighat. Another team is also conducting searches in the Behala area.
The action comes just a day after Madan Mitra reportedly directed all councillors of the Kamarhati Municipality to submit mass resignations in protest against alleged misconduct involving municipal chairman Gopal Saha. He also targeted the BJP, describing the move as a response to "humiliation".
However, within hours of this political escalation, ED teams reached his residence early Saturday morning, before 8 am.

The TMC suffered a major setback in the recent Assembly elections, Madan Mitra managed to retain his Kamarhati seat. However, internal rifts within the party, along with allegations of extortion and corruption leading to arrests of several councillors, have put the party on the defensive in the region.

Mitra, who was earlier under the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) scanner in the Saradha chit fund case, is now reportedly being drawn into another probe linked to alleged irregularities in municipal recruitment at Kamarhati Municipality.
The latest ED action has further escalated political tensions and blame games in West Bengal’s political circles.
